You've Been Someone

You've talked of living things,
what they bring;
with your shackles on.
You've thought of giving rings,
pots and tins;
with your static on.
You've felt bereaved,
wanted to leave your name;
when your battle's done.
You've knelt at all graves,
wanted to grieve the sins;
of everyone.

You've worn the thorns and pins,
tasted the vinegar sting;
with your shackles on.
You've walked for all injured things
in your flayed skin;
with your static on.
You've dealt to the need of haunted refugees,
their pain;
when your battle's done.
You've sheltered all those slaves
who sought the shield of Him;
held every son.

You've fought the wars of inner beings,
what they bring;
with your shackles on.
You've brought the gift of unknown things,
lay imprisoned;
with your static on.
You've felt the grievous taunts
at one thought insane;
though your battle's won.
You've knelt and prayed to remain,
to be someone;
but then you are.
For unlike us all
you've been everyone.
