Writing Songs - Tackling a Variety of Genres

by Merv.
(Sydney.)

Alot of songs are based on things like love, pain and heartbreak. I admit, I write about this in alot of my songs, but there are so many other stuff that you can write about. I thought that all I could write about is life experiences and heartbreak, because people told me I did it so well, but I took a risk and wrote a song about how I think a guy (I'm a girl XD) would deal with being cheated on. I also usually stuck to the indie genre, but I decided to write a heavy metal/screamo song. So in the end, I came up with a heavy metal song, about how I think a guy would deal with being cheated on, and heartbreak. I sent it to a friend of mine, who is like a critic for my writing, and he said it is my best yet. Don't always stick to the same genre, routine and theme, take a chance, you never know where you will end up!! Good Luck, fellow writers!
