Writing music and lyrics

When you write a song, the lyrics should have a certain value behind it... A meaning. Whether it is a personal meaning or not, the lyrics hold more value when there is meaning behind it.

People should be able to communicate with the lyrics, be captured by them. From time to time use words that will get people thinking.

The music- make sure that the rhythm suits the purpose of the song. Should it be slow, fast, in between, or a mix of all? Reflect on the lyrics when coming up with the music, or vice versa.

Remember- You can change the composition of your song AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT until you find the perfect outcome that you are happy with. Also, try getting someone else to sing it for you, see how they would interpret the song, sometimes you might just discover that you like their way of singing it better!... Or you can combine the 2 styles together.

I like your idea of having someone else sing it. I used a similiar idea last week, introducing a song to the band. I found the piano part she was playing very distracting, so I stopped and asked her to play it with her singing the lead vocal. It changed her style totally and created a good, useable part and bonus--her vocal parts became much better too.

Thanks Jimmy... I'm glad you could relate to my post. It's really interesting how you can rearrange anything in a composition, it's good to listen to your arrangements... I always record songs then listen to it afterwards, that way I can hear what everyone else hears!... What type of music does your band play?
