i am 13 years old (my birthday was last week) and i like to write praise songs. my dad picks out the chords for my songs on his guitar and a worship leader from church writes the music for the piano and we sing them sometimes on Sundays but I want an outside opinion. People who aren't afraid to tell me my lyrics are awful....so PLEASE comment!

thank you so much! i love to write and recently started putting my poetry to music. i'm learning the guitar and taking violin lessons. i love music and think it's a fun creative way to worship God!

I'm 20, and I've been writing music for about eight years now. When I saw your age, I thought, "I'll humor myself." I remembered how awful my writing was when I was your age. But I was blown away by this. You have a gift.

I wouldn't change a thing about the words, so I merely offer advice: The music is just as important as the words. You said your dad handled the music, as I understood it. But always make sure that the music reflects what you felt when you wrote the words. If you felt joy when writing those words, don't put music to it that sounds like Trust and Obey.

Good luck, kid. Music is a hard business, but if you don't mind getting your teeth kicked in a few times, you have the talent to eventually make it.
