Who he Is
My wife worked in a Nursing Home/
A RN just out of school /
I stopped by to have lunch with her /
I thought it would be cool /
I waited for her at the desk /
As a lady picked up a lunch tray /
the nurse said Hello Mrs. Jones /
As the lady walked away /
So, I asked the nurse who she was /
She said her husbands here /
She comes in each day, to feed him lunch /
He hasn’t known a soul in years /
He just stares out into space /
As she softly kisses his face /
And if you ask her why she comes /
Her answer will bring tears /
She says, I still know who he is /
Even though he don’t remember me at all /
He’s the love of my life /
He’s my best friend and I’m his wife /
You see/ I still know /
Who he is /
As we had lunch that day /
I thought about that poor old man /
Every time I looked up at my wife /
I began to understand /
fifty years from now /
I don’t know where I’ll be /
But something bad could happen /
And that old man could be me /
She says, I still know who he is /
Even though he don’t remember me at all /
He’s the love of my life /
He’s my best friend and I’m his wife /
You see/ I still know /
Who he is /
We all get older or we die /
That’s just a fact of life /
God help me never to forget /
My children or my wife /
But should that ever happen /
How bad that would be /
I just hope that some one /
Remembers me /
She says, I still know who he is /
Even though he don’t remember me at all /
He’s the love of my life /
He’s my best friend and I’m his wife /
And I still know/
Who he is /
She said as long as I still know /
I will have to go /
Because I still know /
Who he is /
