The Title Comes First ? - (Songwriting)

by Kerry Lyons
(Knoxville TN)

This is truly a great idea, if it works for you. But with me it's not always the case. The only way I know how to express myself is the alegory of taking a trip to the store.
How many times have you started to the store and passed a yard sale, a friend, etc. and gotten deterred from your trip. And I might add, that many times it has been a profitable situation.
Anyway the point is I can't always start with a title 'cause once the writing starts a better idea may come along and I go flying off into a different direction.
I do agree though that starting with a title is a good way to go but don't confine yourself to any rule of thumb. Always be on the look-out for a better one. Many times in public you see a pretty woman but two blocks later there's gorgeous one; and you completly forget the first one. (Glad my wife doesen't read everything I write). Ha!ha!

that reminds me.
by: Charlie

I'm reminded of a chorus in a song i wrote some time ago.It goes like this...

You will be surprised,
What you will find
At the most unexpected time.
Once you learn, to see things for yourself
You’ll find peace, and you’ll find love
These are both gifts from God above
You’ll find them on your way
To somewhere else

Keep writing the way it works for you.

songwriting methods
by: Mantius

Hi Kerry,

I agree with what you've said. The title coming first is one way, but don't feel that this is THE way. There are many methods. Somtimes ideas just come to you and you don't even understand how they do. :-)
