The "Not Recommended But Highly Effective" Approach

by Erik
(Minneapolis)

This ties in well with writing from experiences, but taps a bit more in to the depths of the human spirit.

Sometimes, hopefully rarely, (If ever!), we find ourselves in the not-so-unique, (connecting with others) position of having hurt someone we love very much. For whatever reason. Life happens. Aside from the social impact and everything else that comes as a result, it is a great opportunity to write a song, or 3, or more.

"Good" music comes from the soul or the heart. It's real life, generally. There are the songs that have nothing to do with down to earth situations but that is what this is about - the real life, nitty gritty.

Writing from an experience like this, let's say you're in a spot in life where you have some things to figure out on a serious personal level after the damage has been done. The smoke clears and you're sitting there wondering where to start picking up the pieces. I say, pick up the acoustic. I find that while it can get cheesy at times, it allows you to work through your thoughts and feelings which has a holistic affect on you overall. Which in turn, will help you on many levels including future song writing.
