The lyrics are in YOU!

by Maria
(Wales, UK)

Usually lyrics just pop into my mind at the weirdest times. I could be at college, in work, relaxing while watching a movie & even shopping. Sometimes, i even start singing random words in the shower which turn into lyrics for my songs.
I think its handy if you keep a note book and pen on you. Write down things that you see when your out and about, maybe about nature, about the behaviour of other people around you.

When i write songs i usually think about the emotions i'm feeling at that time. Sometimes it would be about my dreams, thoughts, bad times, good times. I'm 17 years old and a teenager got alot of ups and downs in their life.. well i guess its the same with any age. Writing down key words helps me alot... If i decided to write a song about Love, i would write down words such as heart, companion, security, commitment etc. I would just write any words that i think of when the word love comes into my mind. You can always create good sentences with the key words which could turn into your lyrics.

I write songs based on things i know, feel or have felt. I think its always good to use words or phrases that could import the reader into the song. Hope this helps. Happy song-writing!
