The Great Mac Debate - Mac versus PC
Everything this guy has said about mac is true, except about viruses. Mac is just as prone to viruses and security holes as PC, it's just PC has the largest variation of software so it is more likely a user will install something malicious without realizing it. Yes you can upgrade the hard disk and ram, but only so much. Each type of ram is a certain form factor (whether it be a certain shape, certain set of directions it is capable of performing when requested by the computer it is installed on, and it has a limit to how much total ram can be put in.) where a PC you can get a new motherboard which is capable of using a new form factor of ram and has new firmware letting it use sometimes a much greater amount of ram than Macs (right now the most you can put in a pc is 32 gigs on a 64 bit computer, but that comes at a huge price).
The important things that you can't upgrade are audio inputs, processors, and any new technology like if sata were to become outdated and replaced.
I know they both have their advantages, but I hate when someone doesn't know what they're talking about and ONLY because they are a mac fanboy they go "mac is teh greatest, ya it can do dis and dis and dis, what are you talking about? The major difference is Mac is closed source, and PC is open or closed source depending on your operating system. Windows is closed source, but there's so much user support for it and hacks and available software that it can match anything a mac can do with more variety, upgradability, and affordability.
Like it or not, macs are designed to be exactly what you payed for, and nothing more, and nothing less. When you bought that computer, yes you can put more ram in it, but there's either a 2 gig or 4 gig maximum. Yes you can put a larger hard drive in, but you can do that with any computer, as well as use externals and camera cards, burn stuff to dvd's.
I can upgrade my processor, display, graphics card, audio input, dvd-rom drive, install a low latency ethernet card for gaming, install an extra set of usb ports, hook two graphics cards up in sli, get a new motherboard to keep up with the times, install any slew of operating systems like Windows or Linux (Linux is very much like MAC OS but absolutely free and fully customizable). What can you guys do on your macs?
Sorry for the long post, feel free to reply to this, but I'm afraid I probably won't be back. My friend wants me to build him a recording studio and I sorta happened across this article.
*to the person reviewing this*feel free to cut this down to size, I didn't realize what sort of review system this site has, and I really ranted on, I think some of the points I made were important to someone choosing whether to pick a mac or pc to start on, but some of my bias may cover up said points. I don't really hold anything against macs, I just hate the outstanding number of people who believe macs are great "just cause they're macs". It all comes down to preference, I've used my buddy's mac and I like it, but it's just not and will never be my PC.
