The Final Scene And The Air We Breathe Lyrics Critique - Acoustic/Alternative

by Rachel Leigh
(Fresno, CA, United States)

And are you always this serious? (Tell me now)
And are you always this delirious? (Tell me now)
Cause I've been blaming myself more then you know
How long do i have till i break?
Yesterday's turning to tomorrow
And i know that it's time that i should get some sleep....

But are you always this serious?
(Tell me why)
And are you always this delirious?
(Tell me why)
Your pessimistc charm is getting to my head
(It's getting to me)
And you wonder how i've been
When i've wasted time on keeping words you forgot you said

My doubts are found on so much more then pessimism
And i find it impossible that you could think of me like you did
I could never get through to you
Because your saddened charm stole your heart

And you swear to undeserving
And i'm begging for disbelief
Tell me all you wished for

But are you always this serious?
(Tell me why)
And are you always this delirious?
(Tell me why)
Your pessimistc charm is getting to my head
(It's getting to me)
And you wonder how i've been
When i've wasted time on keeping words you forgot you said

And you know how miserable i love to get
Just when I'm doing my best
And only for a second i thought it could work
But your excuses have always been good at taking place where your confidence lacked

But are you always this serious?
(Tell me why)
And are you always this delirious?
(Tell me why)
Your pessimistc charm is getting to my head
(It's getting to me)
And you wonder how i've been
When i've wasted time on keeping words you forgot you said
But are you always this serious?
(Tell me why)
And are you always this delirious?
(Tell me why)

Shows potential

This is one of the few sets of lyrics I've read so far that seems like it might work as a real song.

There were some clever lines throughout the song, which are a big deal when you're talking about any genre of modern pop music. Wittiness and intelligence need to show, and they do in this song.

A few things stuck out to me that you may want to work on. First, when you have a word that stands out in the chorus (pessimism) I'd advise avoiding it in the verses. It's the kind of word that stands out to the listener because it isn't heard often in songs--so when it's used in the chorus and again in the verse it can easily come off as too repetitive.

The other thing to be aware of is lyrical flow. For many lyricists, it's difficult to compromise the content of the song with the reality of the music itself. In the end, we must remember that the total song is what matters. Even a single word that doesn't flow properly is enough to ruin a record.
