Star Lyrics Critique - Unknown Genre

by Lacey Purdy
(Saint John, Canada)

I'm only 15, I would love to hear your feedback. Anything to make it sound beautiful.

I'm only 15, I would love to hear your feedback. Anything to make it sound beautiful.

I’m lost,
I can’t find my way.
Winter frost,
Is setting on my skin.
The streets are filled with cold-eyed stares.
Can someone help me?
Anyone who cares?

chorus
Where is my star,
I know just where you are.
All I have to do is,
reach for the sky and this
Makes me stronger
No longer, knowing you’re gone.
But when I realize
You’re watching over my life,
I feel almost as safe as I did
When you held me in your arms.
Your that bright light in the sky,
You’re my star.

I walk down hallways alone,
Looking at my feet.
No confidence to look up,
Afraid to speak.
If I do something wrong,
You’re not there to protect me.
Inside I cry,
because at night the only time I see.

chorus

Do you remember our last night together?
Sitting in the silence of hospital air.
Holding your hand all hours of the night.
Laughing at old memories just to show you I care.

Forgetting ‘bout the tears and heartbreak
Forgetting I’m going to lose you at any moment.
I tell you we were no mistake,
tell you how much everyone loves you,
why did you have to leave?

chorus (x2)

Baby, your light is dimming
Don’t let go, please don’t let go.
Baby, Your light is dimming.
Where’s that smile I used to know?
Don’t let go, please don’t let go.

This song is written about my aunt that died a few years ago of Cancer. I am proud to say that Star was my first officially written song and it was about her.
This song also represents the diamond star necklace I wear around my neck everyday in hopes that it will protect me. Whenever I wear it, I feel safe. Just as safe as when I was with my aunt, my best friend.

love you aunt nancy. *
