B.N. Careful from New Hope, United States writes: I find that it's easiest if done in multiple drafts.

1. Brainstorming session, write down any little idea that pops in your head. Even if the idea is stupid.

2. Find a common trend in your thoughts on paper and categorize them. What were you thinking about most?

3. Once you've found your common trend, start writing! If your like me and have trouble establishing a mood to your lyrics, look back at your brainstorming sheet. Was it a silly idea? Was it serious? I also find it helpful to jot down cool phrases that pop into my head while brainstorming, even if they don't have to do with anything.

Jen from Indianapolis, United States writes: I think it's very important for a lyric writer to keep practice writing. I've been writing songs for awhile. And my more earlier songs seemed really cheesy so I deleted them. Now I wish I hadn't. But, as I read through all of the songs that I've written and saved, I notice how some are cheesier than others. But, it's my more recent ones that have the best lyric effect to them. So, I think the more you write, the better you'll be at it. If you think it sounds cheesy, then maybe go back to your song later and tweak it around a bit :).

Songwriting for dummy - Tips for aspiring songwriters.

Josh from Greenville, United States writes: Sometimes if you are writing lyrics, don't try to bring out "big" words all the time especially if the music has ten different things going on. Like in writing rap, try to keep it simple but get your point across. Put your words in "peoples terms".

Casey from Clarks Summit, United States writes: Hey, when I write a song I think about things that have happened to me in my life. I play rock mostly so I write alot about pain, I was born with Spina Bifida, so I write about the pain and stuff I've had to go through. You can really use song writting kinda as therapy, in a way that you can write things down that bother you and express your feelings that way.
