Sleepin' Drunk In Yesterday's Clothes - lyrics critique- country song

by JoBeth
(Macon, GA)

Any general or specific suggestions would be welcome, for example- do I use the apostrophe instead of a "g" in word endings (sleepin') too much? I tried to be consistent but it seems a bit forced.

Sleepin’ Drunk In Yesterday’s Clothes

Sleepin’ drunk, being sick on yesterday’s clothes
Do you even know whose bed it is that you’re in?
Well honey, you tell me… is it the briar or the rose?
Can you make it without your vodka and your sin?

Help her, oh father, in her search to be sober
Help her, oh mother, her distress to console
Her friends have all left her, her life’s nearly over
Give her one chance to at last become whole

You’re startin’ to age hard, with signs on your face
That the bad life is takin’ a bite out a you
Does lovin’ the alcohol blind you to disgrace?
Or are you aimin’ to slip off those damn drinkin’ shoes?

Help her, oh father, in her search to be sober
Help her, oh mother, her distress to console
Her kids now despise her, her life’s nearly over
Give her one chance to at last become whole

You’ve driven away all the good in your life
You’re now makin’ do with the dregs
Will you keep on livin’ with the pain and the strife?
Or will God lend his ear as you beg…

Please help me, oh father, in my search to be sober
Please help me, oh mother, my distress to console
My friends have all left me, my life soon will be over
Give me one last chance, one chance to be whole

Good Write
by: Anonymous

You've done well with the lyric. A couple places I might have changed - nothing specific however. It ain't country if ya don't use that "apostrophe" now and then.

good luck and happy trails.

Good Job!
by: C.Raymond

It's a good song, I can definitely hear it in my head when I read it. I can hear the Chorus being sung by someone like Alison Krauss.

As for if you use the apostrophe words too much, I say no. It's a country song, and they make it flow better, like sanding a piece of woodwork. Nice work friend, good song.
