"Payday" - Lyrics Critique - Rock Song

by David L. Woolacoot
(Toronto)

This is a song ispired by, well, payday...

Please give me your honest opinion. I can take it.

It’s payday today and I couldn’t care less
It’s just another day ‘cause my life is a mess
My money’s spent on everybody but me
My financial state is a tragedy

I gotta pay rent and for the power I use
Gotta pay for the gas and the water too
I’m three months behind on my utility bills
Payday’s such a thrill!

It’s payday!
Hip hip hooray!
That’s what I used to shout
Back in the day
Now it’s payday
Big frickin’ deal
Somebody wake me up
‘cause this can’t be real

I pay the phone bill, cable and Internet
That doesn’t leave me much money left
Can’t forget the leases and the credit cards
The interest always seems to catch me off guard

Taxes, user fees and insurance too
Maybe if I’m lucky I can buy some food
What’s the point of working just to pay the bills?
Payday makes me ill

It’s payday!
Hip hip hooray!
That’s what I used to shout
Back in the day
Now it’s payday
Big frickin’ deal
Somebody wake me up
‘cause this can’t be real

(Bridge - rap)
I’ve got people leaving threats on my telephone
Reminding me about that student loan
I owe more in interest than the borrowed amount
They want all the money from my bank account
I leave them a message and I have a laugh
I don’t have a solitary cent they can have
It’s all tied up in the essential things
Like exotic vacations and diamond rings

(Solo)

There was once a time when I wasn’t in debt
Man those days surely were the best
I spent all my pay on frivolous needs
Fine dining, nice clothes and a big TV

Something strange happened along life’s path
The more money I made – the less money I had
I guess debt is just a symptom of growing old
Now it’s gotten out hand and beyond my control

It’s payday!
Hip hip hooray!
That’s what I used to shout
Back in the day
Now it’s payday
Big frickin’ deal
Somebody wake me up
‘cause this can’t be real

It’s payday!
Hip hip hooray!
That’s what I used to shout
Back in the day
Now it’s payday
Big frickin’ deal
Somebody wake me up
‘cause this can’t be real

It’s payday
It’s payday
It’s payday
It’s payday

It’s payday
It’s payday
It’s payday
It’s payday

very personal I think, but also very good

I really like it.
It is something different, but there's no limit in what the subject of a song has to be.
