My Fools Paradise - Classic Rock - Lyrics Critique

by ryan carroll
(Hazlet, Nj 07730)

Its unconventional because it has only 3 verses and no real chorus, but its better to let the story speak for itself...enjoy

I had a dream last night I was running through the woods
With wide open skies above, and fresh air in my lungs
Well a cell door slams and wakes me from this dream
and there's a 25 to life hanging over me
I know mistakes were made, I wish I could take them away
as I sit here at night and repent everyday
Its seems like people are tired of hearing my prayers
like there's nobody listening, like nobody cares
I just slip down low, in my empty cell, hang my head and always thinking twice
Only living, dreaming in my fools paradise

Break-

I wake up in bed and every-things the same
As the days turn to nights, I can hear the poring rain
My only wish If I could have only one, is be forgiven bye those for what I had done
I committed a crime some few years back but I was desperate and lonely, that's no excuse
Know Im sitting here waiting for someone to come on bye maybe a relative, a lover to free me from this bind
My times running out and I know this now, I've counted everyday myself its got me bound
I just slip down low, in my empty cell, hang my head and always thinking twice
Only living, dreaming in my fools paradise

Break-

Well do you think if a man repents for what he did
That he can go back to time that was happiest to him
You see I had me a wife at a fairly young age, we were wild and filled with someone no-body could tame
We spent our first summer married up in the mountains, above the skies and clouds and made love every night
Days I watched as she laid bye the fire, the way the glow danced off her skin, it was a pretty site
We'd stay up late, and talk till the sun came up, I heard every word she say, every time she spoke
That for me mister would be the time, if I was granted life again I wanna go back to
But that's just another one many dreams I have in an empty cell, I just skip down low and always think twice
Only living, dreaming in my fools paradise

Sounds like Dylan!!!
by: Jake

I like this, it reminds me of Arlo Guthrie, or Bob Dylan. It's a good story that should keep everyone listening, and it's well written. If you want to make it more poppy, add more structure with a chorus, but I like this, and you are good with rhymes! Check out my song, "Time" and tell me what you think!

Don't Worry
by: Anonymous

Don't worry about the structure. There was no chorus in "A Boy Named Sue" either. Besides, you get the effect of a chorus with your repetition of the title. You are a great story teller.
