Samut from Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei writes: We can't actually
'teach' how to write a song, but to guide them towards songwriting techniques,
tips,etc..
I usually use past experiences, friend's life stories, listening to their hopes
and so on. From there, I always require some peace surroundings to actually
start my songwriting.
Songs are like expressing your deepest feelings, no matter if it is anger,
love, sadness, passion and more.
1. Always keep in the same 'topic'. Don't move to another story as this would
usually confuses listeners of what are you trying to tell them.
2. I always use past experiences, adding up with some imaginations to 'spice'
the lyrics up.
3. Depends on your mood, it will decide itself its genre of music.
4. Don't give up if you cant write a thing. Give your brains some rest. Start
writing if there are some lines, phrases that passes through your mind. (I
agree on what others say; bring along a small notebook, you might struck a good
line. Somehow you may forget easily if you dont write them)
5. Reasons of listening all kinds of genre: Music is like a research, it is the
best if you combine all kinds of genres and implement it into one music. From
there, you've created your own niche. So let it flow, listen to lots of music.
Ah yes, try to get some songs from Philippines (forgive my spelling). They have
their own style of music. Dont mind the lyric, mind the music.
6. Melody creation; If you have created your melody, try to record it and
listen to it repeatedly. Then, try to think of how to improvise the melody. It
helps, you have variations in intonation, melody in your song.
7. Dont stress yourself within songwriting. This usually takes time..Look back
your past stories, hopes, etc..
I hope this helps... =)

and i am here to talk to you about writing songs. I am just going to come out
and say , we have all had things happen to us in our lives , weather they are
sad , happy , mad , or confused , we have to deal with life all the time. First
you just have to write your feelings down on a peice of paper. This may feel

Don from Port Perry, Ontario, Canada writes the following lyric ideas: When theme/story
ideas just won't materialize at a time you want to write .... tear a picture
(that visually moves you) out of a magazine and tape it up in front of you ....
then tell the story .
It could be as simple as a picture of a woman sadly staring out a window ....
but that facial expression will tell a story if you focus and listen .
They say a picture is worth a thousand words , so all you have to do when you
feel those words , is edit it all down to 3 minutes (wink) .
