"Lazy Days of Summer Lyrics Critique - Country Song"

by D. Speener
(E. Peoria, IL)

Lazy days of summer,
We were best of friends.
The time we shared together,
We thought would never end.
Skippin' stones and ice cream cones,
We climbed that old oak tree.
Mem'ries of the friends we loved
Are still a part of me.

Lazy days of summer,
We were just sixteen.
Sittin' in the moonlight
On my front porch swing.
Holding hands and making plans,
Our love was here to stay.
We talked of things like hopes and dreams,
But that was yesterday.

(Chorus)
Searching through the traces
Of a world we used to know,
Ain't it strange how the years have changed,
Where do the good times go?
I guess I'll always wonder,
But every now and then
I'll be wishing, Lord, to go back
To those lazy days again.

I'll be wishing, Lord, to go back
To those lazy days again.

(Finale)
Lazy days of summer.

form?

I like the lyrics, but for form's sake, maybe consider "verse chorus verse chorus" instead of "verse, verse, chorus"

Actually, verse, chorus, verse, chorus wouldn't work here.

Verse 1 is a reflection of a time when they were much younger (say, around 10 or 11) while verse 2 jumps ahead a few years (16 years old, to be exact).

The chorus is a culmination of their experiences together.

Placing a chorus between the verses would be premature for the first verse, and would lose the overall summary effect at the end (by repeating itself).

I try not to repeat myself any more than necessary in my writing - it is telling a story, after all, and a story seldom repeats itself.
