It's just how i like to write songs.

Usually when first writing a song, I will pick up my guitar and start finding a chord progression. I usually like chord progressions that sound a little 'odd' and not to common, but still in key of course.
I'll keep playing the chord progression over and over whilst reflecting on myself, about situations ive been in, events that has happened. When thinking about this stuff if the chord progression gives me an "atmosphere" the same or similar to the event im thinking about, I'll usually use that event as my theme.
I'll just start to string sentences together and sing them along with the chord progression, and if any setences or even words stand out, I'll write them down. Sometimes when writing the sentence down another sentence that relates will spring to mind, and i'll jot that down to.
Once i have 4 lines or so, I'll keep that as a "rough" verse (If im satisfied with it of course). I will then try and find a chord progression for a chorus then, I'll either try to make the chorus softer or heavier than the verses depending on the situation.
Then i'll try and think of lyrics for the chorus that sums up the situation the best I can, or possibly just ask a question within the chorus and use the verses as answers.
Then of course, I do the same process for writing another "rough" verse.
Once i have two rough verses and a rough chorus, I'll keep playing it over and over. Jotting down any ideas or lyrics that come to mind which relate to the event im writing about.
Then once im happy ive written the verses and chorus to what i want them to be, I'll start to progress on adding more parts to the song like a bridge for example (If i feel the song needs it).
Once im happy that I've written the lyrics and music to what i want it to be. I'll start working on vocal melodies to try and add even more atmosphere to the song in relation to the event im writing about.
Then i'll keep playing it and playing it, and go back to it every few days to make sure i still like it and still happy with it.
That's pretty much my main method, There are other ways I go about writing too. For example, I may be writing about a sad or down event, but the verse will be about one event, and the second verse will be about another event, but they still relate with eachother and the chorus is still a "common summary" for both events.
Hope that made sense somewhat :)
