IT'S ALL ABOUT A CROSS - Christian Song - Lyrics Critique

by TIMOTHY CARL HORNE
(LITTLE RIVER,SC, USA)

IT'S ALL ABOUT A CROSS

It's not about the fortune or the fame
It's not about the weather when it rains
IT'S ALL ABOUT A CROSS
for the sinner and the lost
It's about a man who gave his life for me

It's not about a lifestyle that we live
It's not about all the money, that you can give
IT'S ALL ABOUT A CROSS
for the sinner and the lost
It's about a prayer that someone shared with me

Chorus:
Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep
I Pray The Lord My Soul To Keep
Guide Me Safely Through The Night
And Wake Me In The Morning Light

It's not about the places where you've been
It's not about how you play the game to win
IT'S ALL ABOUT A CROSS
for the sinner and the lost
It's about a prayer that someone shared with me

Chorus:

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep
I Pray The Lord My Soul To Keep
Guide Me Safely Through The Night
And Wake Me In The Morning Light

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep
I Pray The Lord My Soul To Keep
Guide Me Safely Through The Night
And wake Me In The Morning Light

Wake Me In The Morning Light
Wake Me In The Morning
Wake Me in The morning
Wake Me in The Morning....Light

I like them.

Hi Tim,
I like your lyrics. I have been writing worship song lyrics for two years now.
If you don't have these books, you may want to get them, they helped me grow with leaps and bounds.
Songwriting: Essential Guide to Lyric form and structure by Pat Pattison. And, Rhyming Techniques: Songwriting: Essential Guide to Rhyming, by Pat Pattison. And Lastly, The complete Rhyming Dictionary, Edited by Clement Wood.
And never give up. Because the more you write, the better the lyrics and the more they start to just flow out of you.
I pray God will bless you and use you as His instrument, to write his inspired word through your heart, mind, and hand. That your songs will be sung in Churches around the world for His glory.
Blessings,
John Dickinson

I loved these lyrics,
I am not a religious man but this made me feel very happy
(I was actually tapping my feet whilst reading them)

Thank you

Nice

I really did like your verses. "It's all about a cross," is just the golden line of the words, in my opinion. It's a beautiful idea...

The reason I only gave you three stars, though, is that I wasn't feeling the chorus on this one. What you have as the chorus is nice, but it seems a tad misplaced. What, exactly, does that have to do with the cross? When I hear that line I mentioned, I think about the root of life and how everything we do is all about God. The song went from life's meaning to a song about protection.

My advice to you would be to use this chorus in a different song and give these lyrics a new one. But ultimately, only you know what was in your heart when you wrote it. That's more important than anything.
