I find it within the title (Writing Songs)

by afammusician
(Virginia)

I usually name songs first, then add music to it. My beats and tunes revolve around the title.

As far as how I compose the music, I build it as though I am building a Train. Sounds silly but watch. The beat are the Trains wheels which drive the train, I start there first. The bass is the engine which strums as the wheels turn out the beats. I use the guitar as the engineer which knows when to change tracks after 4 measures of playing. You may want to use 3 measures, I usually do 4 measures. Sounds silly, but it works for me. Guess you can say my unofficial other hobby is building trains.
