Get rid of distractions

I started writing only 6 months ago and have written over 200 lyrics from start to finish. In that same 6 months I sat down at the piano and put 10 to music. The key is to find private time and pull out your favorite R&B and listen to it over and over. When I started trying to write I used Cold PLay as my inspiration. Then I pulled 2 or 3 or their best songs that I wanted to sound like and played them over and over. I them would listen for a phrase that sounded good to me and I would write a title based on a single word or group of words in the song. After I chose the title I would write a story based on my title and almost everytime I would finish the Lyrics in less than 10 minutes. Now my band is playing my songs more than the cover songs. But you have to put yourself into the mood. Keep friends and family away while you do this and I promise it will work.
