by Penny Harmon

My question is. How do you set your poems to a melody. What if you can't read music at all. Let me know. Thanks.....Penny

... if the music is death metal you don't have to worry about the melody, just rhythm ^_^

Find a local musician
by: Anonymous

Get with a local recording studio musician who can help you. I did this and created a song with my poem in about 2 hours ....was alot of fun and cost only $100...I was the vocalist but it didn't sound too bad cause most all studios today have the technology to improve your voice when they record it. I did this in 2002 so the cost might be higher today...might be about the same or lower given todays economy.

Of Poems and Songs
by: RNN

Poems are relatively good starting point for songwriting. I think you're almost half-way done, since you already have the "lyrics" (stanzas of your poems) and all you have to do is to put on the appropriate music to make your poems into songs. It's like: Body & Soul as to Lyrics & Music. The music or sound will "put life" into the poem (lyrics).
If you'd like to be the one to put the music into your own poems, I would humbly suggest that you simply try to "create" or invent a tune for one of the lines in your poem first (any line would do, not necessarily the first line; whatever line you would feel like to start off). From there, you could move on, just take your time as the tunes would naturally come out at the right time. Just invent a lot of tunes and try it on the other lines of the poem. Do lots of experimenting (creating tunes).
However, there are times that you may need to revise some lines or words in your poem that may not be "fit" or "sound awkward" for the tune. (Well, on the other hand, you may also try to change that particular part of the tune to make it appropriate for your poem - should you decide to keep your poem unaltered).
Just try making your first song. It may not turn out the way you'd like it, but it's one way of developing your songwriting skills. Experience helps a lot. Just enjoy what you're doing.
Hope I've shared something. Thank you very much.
