How I got taught songwriting.

by Katie
(Birmingham, United Kingdom)

My manga work is my dream, music is the second option :)

My manga work is my dream, music is the second option :)

Well, I'm taking my GCSE's in music atm and I sing

I went to this Songwriting course and this young woman taught me in a certain order

Writing a song is very hard and can often get annoying at times

Well first, choose something that inspires you or something thats happened to you before. It can be about an adventure or love or school/college. Baring in mind base it on something that really does inspire you

Once choosen, you the folowing headings

Feel.
See.
Hear.

(The hearing one isnt as important as the others)

Now you mention the things you have heard/you think you would feel and make a random list of words

Then mention the things that seen/see. Make anything random that you think would be useful

Then the hearing part (optional if it helps)

Once that is done, its easy to start of with the chorus. The chorus is meant to be there catchy part or have good describing words with emotion on the fact your doing the song on. It would be easy to have rhyming words at the end of a few lines or have the same concept of words, example, "Looking"...next line..."Bobbing" Then work around it anyway you want

I wish I could help you making up the first line but I cant do that, Ive been stuck at this desk for like an hours just to think of an intro line.

Anyway I hopes this helps you as much as it helps me

Thank you to the teacher Louise who taught it me

Ride it out..
by: Anonymous

I found that the best way for me to write lyrics was to get on my Motorcycle and ride..just ride all day and sing to myself stuff while cruising. It was the most relaxed place I could ever get to. I came up with a few real good blues numbers this way, but alas..I know ride a wheelchair more than a Bike. (No, It was not the Motorcycle that caused it but a half arsed doctor.)
I would ride with a small mic in my helmet and just sing, making drum thumps every now and then for a beat to keep with it all. Worked for me but then hey, everybody has their own special 'Quiet Space'.
Good Luck to y'all!
