How I Built This Site

It all started with me working on a cruise ship.

When I was first introduced to playing on a cruise ship in 2001, I was very excited about it. First of all, it was an opportunity to play in a band since I had only operated as a One Man Band before. Secondly, it was an opportunity to travel all around the world. Thirdly, at the time I found the pay to be very good, especially considering the fact that I wouldn't have to pay for food, utilities or related bills.

But playing on the cruise ship was not all I thought it would be. I soon found out that my girlfriend and family were a bigger priority. I was missing them so much that I wasn't happy. It was a very unhealthy situation for me and I wanted to be home instead. The money, the luxurious ship and the many countries we visited were less important. I ended up working on the ship for a period of 2 years with breaks in between.

It's my situation on the ship that led me to begin searching for a better way. If I were to leave the ship, I know I needed to find something else to do that would at least match my income. I had always heard about people making money on the Internet but never really gave it too much thought. But all of a sudden here I was in April of 2003, searching for information on how to make money online.

The first so-called opportunity I came across was one called Secrets To Success. It was an ebook they were selling for about $200, one which you could have resold over and over again. They painted a situation of having a web site with thousands of people coming to it and buying that same ebook while you are seated by the beach relaxing. They went on and on showing how it was possible to make a living online doing exactly what they suggested and how most people were wasting their time making their boss rich instead of making themselves rich. I must admit that if I had a credit card at the time I would have been suckered in. It seemed so genuine and it was as if the light bulb had finally come on. After reading the information on their website I wondered why the heck I was still on the cruise ship. I didn't feel like playing anymore.

Not having the means of buying Secrets To Success, I kept on coming back to the Internet day after day researching how to make money online and soon discovered that they were painted in a very bad light online. A scam! But to tell you the truth I'm happy I stumbled across them because it was their site which first showed me the light of working for oneself instead of making someone else rich.

Actually it was a site called Mazu.com that painted Secrets To Success as a scam. They listed several online business opportunities and said which ones were genuine and which ones were scams. Every day I came to this site run by Matt Gagnon and read what he had to say on making a living on the Internet. I couldn't wait for my contract on the ship to be over to go back home and order the course he was selling for over 100 dollars. Let me add that I was spending so much time on the Internet that the other band members began making fun of me, calling me mantius.com (Mantius is my name).

When the contract was over (in May of 2003) and we went home to St Lucia, I immediately ordered Matt Gagnon's course. I went through the materials but I found it so abstract. He taught some important lessons but he didn't take your hand and actually show you how to make a living online. I was still lost.

I refused to give up and spent time checking out an internet marketer that Matt Gagnon himself had talked about and praised. His name was Marlon Sanders. Marlon Sanders taught some great lessons about how you could make your own product and sell it online. I spent a lot of time on his site because I had become very interested in making money online. Being able to work in the comfort of my own home really appealed to me. I had always like staying home. It also meant that I could have been with my friends, family and girlfriend and not have to work overseas. I became a big fan of Marlon Sanders and finally ordered his products for over $700 at the time. I was very excited when I got his materials and spent several days studying them. But somehow his stuff just didn't work for me. I just couldn't come up with my own product and couldn't figure out stuff like getting a merchant account, an 800 number and all of that. I couldn't handle it and after having tried so hard I gave up on his materials and asked for a refund. Maybe it was just me.

I felt disappointed. For months, working on the Internet had been my major focus and I had tried two programs that failed. Then I remembered! I remembered having read about something called Site Build It! where they showed a juggler building a site and making money off his passion. I decided to check out Site Build It again and everything clicked. In desperation I bought Site Build It! I paid $299 and immediately got links to download the materials. Site Build It was the one. I lost sleep over SBI, so excited was I. I spent countless hours checking out the materials, learning how to build a website.

Very soon (in September of 2003) I built my first website www.ultimatesongwriting.com. Me having my own website? I felt very proud and showed it off to everyone who came home even though all I had built then was a few pages. Site Build It! was so clear. They took me from day one to day ten showing me all the steps that I should take. They spoon feed you. They teach you to build a website about your passion and how to figure out what people really want to hear about your topic. They help you figure out what keywords people search for online and you write information on these keywords. They show you where to find the information and how to present it with your own unique voice. There's so much you learn but it's very straightforward. You don't need anything else but Site Build It! What I mean is that you don't have to consult other authors, other products or Internet marketers. Site Build It has all you need for making money on the Internet.

Since I joined SBI (short for Site Build It!) It has been no turning back. I have gone on to build six other sites and I now own seven websites including www.yamaha-keyboard-guide.com and my newest site www.socafreak.com. These sites have freed me and make good money. Today, I do what I want to do when I want, thanks to Site Build It.

Although I compose my own music (which I love), SBI is my main source of income. I have this thing against working a real job. I don't think I will ever work a 9 to 5 job again. You see, with having your own web site you're building a business. You're setting up a system that will make you money even while you sleep, for many years to come. You're earning passive income and you're free to take vacations when you want and work when you want, set your own hours and so on. As opposed to a job when you only get paid when you work and you're at the mercy of an employer who can fire you just because he is having a bad day.
