How I, a 13 year old songwriter, write my songs.

by Christie

Well, i first started to write songs when i was about the age of 7, they weren't that "good", being a first grader. but as i got the age i am now, i started to revise more of my songs, since i was much more intelligent. Now, as a teenager I'm going through alot and trying to deal with all the drama of still being in school, and so really, most of my songs come from experience and how I'm feeling. For example I have one song called "everyone" its about how I'm not the only one going through the this drama, and depression, about how I'm not alone, and that there other people i can talk to. Another song is called "Change the World" and its about world change and how you can do anything if you put your mind too it. And i have others, alot about love, and really, like i said, how i feel. And how i do that is, first i usually think of how i'd sing the song without lyrics, and when i get that, i think of how ive been feeling lately and my opinion, and then i put it into words that really describe how i feel. After that, thats when i think of a good hook for the song. And BOOM! its done :D Well, actually, i usually think of the chorus and bridge for a long time, and i do the verses and hook last, which is weird because they come usually first in the song. But my favorite part of the song is usually the breakdown, and i take that as it name implies it: i breakdown the song to what im really trying to get across. and then after the break down, its the chorus sang with alot more meaning and energy. How long it takes me to write a song? wow... usually since im lazy and i do alot of other things... half a week, which tells you i need to focus on song writing a little more, but it also shows that i take it seriously and i don't mind how long it'll take me write a song, i just care if it describes me and i write it. So my advice- take your time, write about how you feel and dont be afraid to express yourself. people love to hear a song that has alot of meaning, so it'll be a song they can relate to. And that why i love music and songwriting, even when i feel down, i can write a song and it makes me feel LOADS better about what made me so sad. Its a great hobby that ANYONE can excel at. And im sure you, the reader, will love it just as much as i do :D Thanks for reading :D
