How do I write songs?

I can write a variety of poems, phrases, songs, etc.; but there's really no method to it. I've got all kinds of words, phrases, and ideas floating around my head; but I really don't know what to do with them. The more and more I try to ignore them, the more they pop up. There's something inside of me tryin' to get them out. I feel like at least some of them are good, but I really have no idea. What should I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
