How Do I Write A Good Positive Song?

How Do I Write A Good Positive Song?

Don't be repetitive
(example)
It doesn't have to end today
It doesn't have to be this way
It doesn't have to go this day
It won't go down down today
I know it's hard
it's so hard

Yeah that was crap.... Take it from me I'm a lyricist (I have written over 100 songs)
Use good word choice and don't be afraid to look up word in the Thesaurus and Dictionary. Have good fluency in each line.
Make sure that there are about the same amount of syllables for all of the verses together. Same goes for the Chorus and any Riffs or Bridges that you want to add in there.
Make sure that the syllables or the lines aren't a mouthful if the song is soft or rock. Make sure that what you are saying matches up (works out) with the tabs.
You can listen to music for inspiration, but don't plagiarize.

Writing a GOOD POSITIVE SONG.....
by: Anonymous

In my experience repetition works and I don't mean like this:
You mean so much to me
You mean the world to me
You are everything to me
You are everything, everything
That is boring and your saying the SAME thing in a couple different ways.

By repetition I mean like this
I love the way you make smile
I love the way you bring me up when I'm down
And Loving you I feel so good
I love it when you come around

Hmmmm there are distinct differences between the two.

A good positive song requires for you the songwriter to first be in a positive state of mind and if your not then imagine what would make you happy and positive........then start writing. EX: You may be experiencing a bad relationship.......well write about being in love and what that would feel like..............

True

True true and if you listen to music for inspiration it needs to be happy or uplifting. Love songs are best written by someone who is actually in love, not some kid trying to show off. Most of my love songs are inspired by my girl friend. It is so much easier to write negative songs. It requires more thinking on positive lyric writing.

Great tips
by: Jeanette

The repetition you speak of is so true. When every last words or two rhyme it sounds like 3rd grade poetry instead of coherent song(in most instances).

Agree
by: author of this page

i completely agree with all of you. when you are actually in a relationship, you have the inspiration to actually succeed in song-writing.
Having a good vocabulary and being articulate does help make the lyrics seem more alive. Lyrics are a tremendously important part of the song. imagine an awesome guitar opening and a cracky voice vocalist 'singing' the following:
yeah yeah yeah
My girlfriend jessica-a-ah
is so hot
Believe it or not
uh... Nobody's perfect!
I gotta work it!
Yeah! Uh huh! Aw yeah!

.... boooo....

the lyrics can be just as important as the singer. if there won't be good lyrics, why have the singer there mumbling some random nonsense?

Oh one more thing. Do not add more than 2 vocal fills in a song. example : yeah. Uh huh. alright. woohoo. aw yeah. baby. ooh. blahdy dah dah dah this all just shows lack of lyric writing ability. I mean i don't wanna listen to 3 minutes of what sounds like someone agreeing with you, riding a horse, and sweet talkin a chick simultaneously.
oh and do not have the singer wear a cow boy hat and sunglasses and blue jeans. Cowboys and Rock do not mix. Cowboy + Rock = SUCK.
