How a teenage girl writes her songs

I write songs based on whatever I'm feeling at the time I sit down and try to write it.Sometimes, when I'm stuck,I'll think back over experiences I've had, choose one that's especially impacted me,and just write whatever comes to mind about it.I used to write songs all the time, and kept them in a journal. But recently I've had major writer's block and hadn't written one in months.I'm trying to start up again, but it's been hard thinking of what to write. My biggest problem is trying to make things rhyme and still make sense.
Usually,I'll think of a verse or chorus first, then figure out a title later.I rarely think of a title first. To pick a title,I think of a word or sentence in the song that I want to stand out or that really sums up the whole meaning of the song. That's usually my title.
I love to write, both songs and poetry. My main goal in writing anything, but particularly songs,is to help the listener realize that I understand what they're going through.I really admire Taylor Swift, especially for her songwriting abilities. She's either written or co-written every song on her last two CDs,which is something alot of singers don't even bother with!I'd say my songs are alot like hers,in that we both write about things that teenage girls go through, such as love, crushes,or just growing up in general.I just hope my songs will affect one person the way her songs have affected me.
That's why I keep writing, even when inspiration doesn't come very easily. My advice for other young songwriters is just to write about what you know, and how that knowledge affects you and makes you feel.Keep writing, even when you can't seem to think of anything to say.If you persevere, eventually something worth writing will come to you. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
