Heros- Lyrics Critique- country- by Lonnie

Here's a song I wrote about two family members. A lot of songs are just made up stories but this one is very real. The first verse is about my 12 year old nephew that was diagnosed with a brain tumor and spent a lot of time at St Judes in Memphis. My sister said when they told them in Shrveport, that he never even treambled. He beat it and today he is doing good. The second versh is about a cousin that was a cop in a little town . He was shot down in a motel room where him and his pardnor was investagating a stolen guitar amp. I'm sorry about the long intro to this but this song means so much to me. Let me know what I need to do to make it better.
Heroes
It wasn't in some far away country where he learned to stand like a man
But in the quietness of a private office as they laid out their plan
And when it called for the strength of hundreds he never trembled one tear never fell
And as he arrived in Memphis willing to fight to get well
You want to talk about heroes a couple comes to my mind
One being a small boy fighting cancer and wearing a smile all the time
It wasn't on the streets of Fuljuia or a car bomb in downtown Baghdad
But a quit country town in the summer right on the court house square
And when duty called he answered demanding the best of the best
And when the shooting had ended he lay with four slugs in his chest
You want to talk about heroes a couple comes to my mind
One being the small town detective that wouldn't let the bad guys off this time
We like to talk about our heroes everybody has had one or two
But the question now that I'm asking is there a hero in me and you
