TITLEE!
by: Vezz

Im 12. I write songs. My first thing i write when im stuck is my title. It helps you think of the layout of the song, the mood, the experience. It helps! Dont think that it doesnt just because other people say so. Example:

My Title: * Tell Me Sorry

Verse: Dont want no big apology,
just want you to pick up the phone and
Tell Me Sorry
I Cant Believe what i just heard and seen
sit here thinking why cant you
Tell Me Sorry.

Right. That was good, dont you think? Just saying that i am 12 and im from the UK, and that is a good song! If you are older than me, just think: "If a 12 year old can do it, so can i!"

Song Writing Tips
by: Prava Recordings

There is a popular myth in the world of beginning songwriters that a song is just a poem set to music. Anyone who has told you this is either dead wrong, totally inexperienced, or a liar.

If you are serious about being a songwriter, you must learn to play an appropriate instrument--the piano or the guitar--or find a writing partner who can.

A song is a song, not just simple poetry. There are a lot of creative people in this world who start off on the wrong path in their writing techniques, quickly become discouraged, and eventually quit.

Except there is no such thing as "the wrong path" in songwriting. Music, as well as any other type of art is all about freedom. There are no rules or right techniques how you should write a song, just tips that may help you and make your writing easier.

few tips
by: Mr. Mojo

Just write whatever feels and sounds good to you. Remember that you're writing a song, not a novel. It doesn't have to make any sense! I suggest you to listen to lot of music and read other people's lyrics and poems and stuff like that. You might find something helpful. And remember: borrowing and stealing are two different things :)

My Take
by: Ben M

To start:

This article is complete crap. All the ideas in it are pretty much worthless, it's just a segway into a product it wants to sell.
--------------------------------

Now, let me give a few pointers on lyrics:

Start by thinking outside the box. THE INCIDENT OR SUBJECT ITSELF does not matter; concentrate on the feeling behind it or the metaphor you associate with it.

Use poetic devices. Alliteration and rhyming will help your lyrics flow and sound good with the music.

It is very hard to write love songs. Why? So many have been written, almost any lyric you come up with will sound like a cliche. Until you are very confident lyrically, stick with other song writing topics.

After writing lyrics, you can come back to them days later and critique and rewrite them to make them flow better.

Note: Never try to force yourself to write lyrics. You are either in the mood or you aren't. There are certain things you can do to put yourself into the mood (taking a hot shower, exercising, listening to incredible music, etc.), but don't just sit at your desk trying to do mental gymnastics around your writer's block. It will not help you to write good lyrics.

Remember: Don't give up! Every single human being has the ability to write good lyrics, if he puts his mind to it. You will write tons and tons of crappy lines and stanzas. Just go with the flow, figure out what works with you, and always try to improve.

(love songs guys only)
by: Anonymous

Ok well im a simple 14 yr old 8th grade boy in maryland, and one thing ive done is to just think of everybody i know. When i find something important (like an ex, current, or wantabe gf). Anywayy i've been writing some lyrics to this girl im really trying to be her bf. Trust me even the most popular girls will fall for a good song. Brooke is in my homeroom and i only tlk to her a bit anyway heres a song i wrote.

"THIS IS REAL"
Verse 1:oooh oooh oooh... Baby girl i have to talk to you, theres something urgent i must do.I should say this quickely, before you go away. Girl all i can think about is you, ohhh your just soo beautiful.I am all alone sitting up in my bed. Writing love songs....playing ping pong. Theres nothing to do(times 5)Girl i need you, i need you now, to be with me, ill do anything to get you. oooh oooh oooh... I can feel your breath, apon my cheek, i can feel your heart inside of me. Now i need to know, do you love me? Baby i need you so bad. Theres nothing to do(times 5)

Verse 2: Girl you have the lips of an angel, you have the hair of a queen. You have the eyes of an eagle, your the best girl ive seen...(to be continued)

This is a song i gave her and she loved it, an its not even finished yet. One thing i noticed is you should include the person directly in the beginning(unless its an ex, or loss) use ooohs, whos, heys, and ohhhs in your song it really puts the feeling in it.As u can see i puy thngs like baby in it, not dont over use the same words (like baby unless u really want to be jb jr.) try to put talk or see you it makes the girl know ur talking to them as i put in the song. Tell them there beautiful and important. Try to say things like "your stuck in my mind". When you express features of them DO NOT put anything abou thier butt or breast size being a perv is not cool at all. Talk about thier face and clothes. Yut rhymes with features example "Girl you have the lips of an angel" and "You have the eyes of an eagle" they rhyme and are very good to use. Another cool feature is tell them your bored and how you feel "left out". The title should become deep and loving "THIS IS REAL" shows the real passion i have for Brooke. DO NOT MAKE A RAP ABOUT GIRLS. Another thing listen to other famous love song artists (r&b seems to be my favorite) example Claude Kelly isnt too popular be hes 100% origonal and is a musical genus. BTW brooke literally cried to this in class. Now tell me this wont help you. 1 more thing dont use your "high pitch voice" like jb because guys will make funn. "good luck hopefully you can get with ur ex or a great new gf"

Feel it
by: soph

When your writing let the lyrics flow through you, dont push to write anything, just relax and let your brain do the work.

Think about something that made you emotional during the day, or at anytime and describe how you feel through your lyrics. This is how I write, all of my lyrics have been written when Ive been very emotional.

I always suck at comment titles
by: Anonymous

Dont break a classic formula! Every song in the world seems to use the 1 3 5 chords so why not do that? Want a minor? Use the 6. Why fix what's not broken? Also I find that at least for me it's difficult to write what I want to. I go in wanting to write a catchy kind of pop California rock song and end up with a slow acoustic ballad. Don't let this kind of thing stop you, music kinda does what it wants it seems like sometimes. Also find a song you like and look at what the band is doin; chances are that it's a 135 progression with maybe a 6 in there. Play the progression and that will help you get ideas for a song with the sound you want.
