Fate is Your Compass - Pop - lyric critique

by Nick Be
(Atlanta)

verse 1

Young girl, around 16, pocket fulla dreams
over bearing mother and a secret belly ring.
One day she had enough, packed her stuff
said mom I'm gonna leave
don't know where I'm going gonna follow my dreams.
She kissed her on her forehead
then looked at her and said

Chorus

no matter where you go
no matter how far
you can always find home
you don't need to search the stars
fate is your compass
just stay strong
at the end of the day
you'll be where you belong

Verse 2

Young boy, around 14,
mom & step dad fighting everyday
he had enough so he decides to run away
He gets lost now he's roaming in the rain.
He stops and remembers what his dad use to say

(chorus)

So the girl, is all grown up now
traveling the world
her show was in her hometown
shes on stage
singing her heart out
she sees her mom among the cheering crowd
the show is over so she goes backstage
cries for a while then cleans up her face,
looks in the mirror sees her mom by the door
she turns around and hugs her and cries a little more
she says mommy i missed you, please forgive me
i always regret ever leaving
this life's not at all what i dreamed it would be
but i always remembered what you said to me

(chorus)

So the boy grew up he was never found,
he made a new home for himself on the ground.
Nothing to eat
no real place to sleep
for so many years, Then he became weak
he died of starvation may he rest in peace
he took his last breath one night around seven
his soul had departed and floated to heaven
he saw his dad and his dad said to him
son i really missed you look how you've grown
he said dad i remember what you said you know

(chorus x2)
