Don't focus on perfection (writing lyrics)

In all honesty, I don't think perfection exists, so I've greatly benefited from "thinking outside the box" when writing lyrics. What I'm saying is that when writing lyrics, don't dedicate yourself to writing the best lyrics the world has ever seen, you're bound to get frustrated and give up. Instead, write the very first thing that comes to mind, whether it sounds cool or hits close to home or anything. It's kind of like playing free association with music. Jot down a few lyric ideas, no matter how farfetched or weird or stupid they may sound, there just might be a hit song among those pages of lyrics and you just might like a few of those weird or stupid lyrics.
