Creating a Melody

by Chel
(Virginia)

Hi, I have a song that I wrote and is in the process of creating a melody and chords for it. However, I'm having issues with this. When I was writing the song, I could sort of hear the music in my head. Now, I'm trying play what I heard but it's not working out. My question is what steps should I do in creating music? Should I just play some chords first? If so, what is the simplest chord to get a melody out of? I just don't know where to begin and it's recking my brain. Oh, I'm using a piano.

For Melody, don't be afraid to jump several keys left or right... when you noodle about, that sometimes sparks melodies...

Just Let You're Fingers Take Control
by: Sabrina C.

Hey, I've been through the same excact thing thing so any times! I'm just 13, but with the keyboard and guitar I've had this problem. After a while, I learned that you have to do a couple of things. One is that you can listen to different clips of music as an example and once you hear a certain note or chord you like build it up, it can come at any time so be ready for it. Another one is that you gotta mess with you're keyboard. Act like a 2 year old, hit random notes until you hear something but have fun with it because that will truely light up you're creativity. With that said, I want you to try it as soon as you can, you'll be suprised. Good luck :)
