Lyrics copyright - posting lyrics online.
by: Mantius

All of the suggestions you mention can work:
"I have heard it is copyrighted upon completion, I have heard to send it to myself, certified, round-dated, and leave it unopened, I have heard I have to fill out forms". It's all about proving that the lyrics are yours, especially in a court of law.

But in my humble view, there's is more fear of people stealing one's lyrics than actually exists in reality.

Also, I don't see how you can lose the rights to your lyrics by posting them here or on any similar web site. If anything, I think it can only help prove that it is your song, having posted it on a particularly date.

At the end of the day, people will steal anything if they want to steal it. But that doesn't stop me from parking my car in a busy city street. Hope you catch my drift.

Thousands of songwriters post their lyrics online every day for review. Likewise, you are welcome to post your lyrics on this site.

Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion. It is not professional advice. I am not a lawyer. I am a songwriter.

Just post them =]

I dont think people will just steal lyrics, and by posting them on a site, the date is a kind of prove that you wrote it, and not someone else.

The worst that could happen is that people get their own lyric ideas, like the topic or some rhyming words, from your song, but that happens to copyrighted songs even more!
