Are you contemplating on writing a song only because it's the cool thing to do? Well, if so, just don't! Pure and good song lyrics come from the soul, not from tips and tricks. Truely beautiful and meaningful lyrics are the result of trails of thought that, most of the time, do not directly convey a message. There is an underlying message that evokes emotion, passion.

If you are looking to write lyrics, they shouldn't be copied from someone else's work. Good song lyrics should be identifiable to the writer and no one else.

One of my personal strategies of writing good lyrics is taking a song I've already produced and playing it backwards. Then I interpret possible things my subconscious was trying to say. I use those to create something new.
