Guide to bulk CD replication.

Can bulk CD replication save you money? Sure it can. When producing a large quantity of CDs it is the most cost effective route to take. This is the industry standard for music compact discs because of the higher quality it delivers over CD duplication.

The bulk CD replication process makes use of a glass master. Your data is transferred from your original master into the glass master. A metal stamper is created and a disc is made from plastic injection molding. This disc is then coated with a reflective layer of molten aluminum and a protective laquer layer is spun onto it. This layer hardens by ultra violet light. After this is completed, top quality silk screening must be used for the actual printing process, which normally makes use of two or more colors.

CD replication is totally different to the CD duplication process. CD duplication is also referred to as burning and involves lasers which "burn" pits into a dye that is inside a pre-made disc. This process manufactures CDs which are less durable in the long term and there may be problems with compatibility. However, for smaller quantities it is a great option.

For orders over 1000 units, CD replication is highly recommended. Although bulk CD replication has higher setup costs, the per-unit cost is very low. This is why it is more cost effective for larger quantities. Over the years, costs have been reduced to more accessible levels and some CD replication companies now allow lower minimum quantities.
