"Broken" by Robert Martin *Country* Critique???? Thank You!!!

by Robert M. Martin
(Salisbury, N.C., U.S.A.)

I know I sound just like a broken record, tellin' you I know we're meant to be,

After all this time, I know you think we're over, but I won't give up on the one God made for me,

I said 'I love you,' you said it back but you were jokin',

But not me, I'm broken.

Broken.

Broken are the promises you made me, and broken is my cowboy heart of stone,

And I just can't believe, that someone as tough as me, is broken into pieces because you're gone,

I play a heartbroke song, with my last jukebox token,

And drink all night long, till I can't tell I'm broken,

Broken.

And all that broken glass up in our bedroom, well I broke it, after you broke me,

I guess I thought it might make me feel somethin,' to break a window, a mirror, a TV,

But it didn't, and it was stupid, the kind of thing that I just can't explain,

I'm still broken, and it's broken, but I'm jealous, cause it can't feel the pain,

Baby I'm broken,

Broken.

Broken are the promises you made me, and broken is my cowboy heart of stone,

And I just can't believe, that someone as tough as me, is broken into pieces because you're gone,

I play a heartbroke song, with my last jukebox token,

And drink all night long, till I can't tell I'm broken,

Broken.

Was that man, really worth our family? And was your lust, really worth our life?

And what about my kids? Do they call that man Daddy? And I don't wanna call you my ex-wife,

Baby, I'm dyin', burnin', drownin', and chokin',

And our family, it's broken,

Broken.

Broken are the promises you made me, and broken is my cowboy heart of stone,

And I just can't believe, that someone as tough as me, is broken into pieces because you're gone,

I play a heartbroke song, with my last jukebox token,

And drink all night long, till I can't tell I'm broken,

Broken.

Excellent Writing NEW
by: Thererse Dickson

Robert, your lyrics are beautiful. They come from the heart and that's what real songs are all about. Excellent writing, good luck with it. Would love to hear it with music when it's recorded. Best, TD
