Birthday - Lyric feedback

by ryan carroll
(Hazlet, Nj 07730)

Birthday
Key of C

Everyone was gathered round, young and old

As she walked into the room, sat where she belonged

With her eyes closed tight, the lights went down

And we sang that old birthday song

She opened her eyes I watched that smile come about

And she leaned on over to blow her candles out

Tonight tonight every things alright

Shut out the lights and close your eyes

Take one deep breath and just wish away

For a life and some dreams that won't come today

Growing up was hard, ask anyone they know

What was needed to live, wasn't around so much

You fought and saved your dimes just to buy a loaf

We got you this cake with happy birthday inscribed your turning three

The happiness you showed that day, did it for me

Don't care about the bills, their way over due

All that matters now is that smile and you

Tonight tonight every things alright

Shut out the lights and close your eyes

Take one deep breath and just wish away

For a life and some dreams that won't come today

When the smoke has settled, all the stories are told

When all the goodbyes are spoken, reality grabs hold

At the end of the night when I put them to sleep

I'll wonder what the next day will bring, and if we're in to deep

This one lonely night, lost in a sea of to many

Is when we laughed and loved, but now its all just a memory

Tonight tonight every things alright

Shut out the lights and close your eyes

Take one deep breath and just wish away Out

For a life and some dreams that won't come today

The Idea behind the song
by: Ryan

Hey thanks for all the comments keep them coming the idea of this is song is my style of writing. I like to create these worlds with characters and mess with them in a sense. Such a birthday when most people think of one they think of all happiness and they forget about their troubles at least for that day. However something still lurks around such as money bills ect. But once again you forget about it but what if you can't that's what this song is describing. The party the sacrifices for that party and the after math when its over and things are back to normal. Just my way of writing and showing reality something I think everyone can relate to.

Not really a song.
by: Amanda

A song should have only one point of view:
You are singing to yourself
Or to a person
Or to an audience
Or to an unseen force like God.
But this song starts off by singing to an audience
[us] and then it switches to singing to the birthday girl.
Or maybe to himself. It is not focused.
It takes a stab at a CHORUS to differentiate itself from prose, but it is such a downer that the expression "Happy Birthday" doesn't really fly in this song. On Saturday night I threw a birthday party for an 81 year old friend.
Ask yourself the obvious question, "Is there really anyone on this planet you would want to sing this song to?"
Some artists paint when they are depressed and some songwriters write when they are DOWN.
This song ignores the audience. A real birthday song would be commercial.

Very deep lyrics, they have a lot of emotion and give the listener a feel of the situation.
