Billys Got A Gun - Critique Rock

by Mark
(New Zealand)

Here's a follow up to the first song ("Theory of a superhero"). I look forward to your feedback!

Intro

He was a rebel who lived by his own laws
Lived on the edge with the boys from the wrong side of town
Had a taste for adventure and lived to the extreme
They say he's got a gun and it doesn't leave his side

Chorus

(Woah Woah) Billys got a gun and he ain't afraid to use it
(Woah Woah) Watch him shoot a man down, it's his biggest mistake
(Woah Woah) Billys gonna cross the line this time
(Woah Woah) Billys got a gun and an outlaw on his mind

He grew up inside the house of god
Went to church and prayed for better times
When he saw that man shot before his eyes
Than that boy went and crossed the line

Repeat Chorus

Billys got a gun chasing the devil on the run
Billys had a taste for blood and he can taste the fear

Break

(Woah Woah) Billys got a gun and no time to heal
(Woah Woah) Billys got a gun and a grudge taking over him

Repeat Chorus

Great Topic
by: Dan P

I really like the topic. What you wrote makes me want to know more about Billy. I usually rhyme when I write lyrics. I'd be interested in how you phrase yours. And no I'm not saying that it's wrong either. I'm thinking I could learn from this.

Thanks Dan P... for me writing is both emotional and environmental. I grew up surrounded by rock and country - I like to write stories when I write songs. Billy's Got A Gun was inspired by a lot of '80's rock - Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and Skid Row were in part the environmental inspiration for this song. The emotional inspiration for this song was drawn from Billy's off the track lifestyle that made him feel like he was invincible until a dose of reality bought him back down to earth. The moral of the song is to not take anything for granted. I hope that helps.
