Better Times Rock with a reggae vibe - lyric critique

I actually didn't write these lyrics, I work closely with my bass player who writes all the lyrics for our band. I wanted to get an unbiased opinion.

Verse 1:

When there was no fighting

never bothered your pride

Chorus:
