Believe lyrics critique - rock

by Bill Oglesby bsotherockjock@yahoo.com
(Mason City , Ia)

In the back of your mind Always searchin to find a road to lead us somewhere Run the course of life try an control it Seems time after time.. We reach for a star to pull it down and shine We all deserve to shine on... Chorus: Gotta believe in yourself and the path you've chosen.. never to question what might have been for those who choose to hesitate...You've gotta believe in yourself....... It's so hard at times.. The push and the pull Lifesropes can cut and bind..can you break it...emotional scars held in dark places of souls and minds push on you'll make it it's up to you to make it............................................. Repeat chorus:

Needs some work I guess, but every idea has potential. I'm only really responding to Mr. Anonymous, who seems to be a little narrow minded. And I'd hate to see this become a common affliction, though I fear the worst already...

Songwriting is like painting, or writing a book. Sure, there are conventions, but there are no rules. Songs are generally poems of a sort, yes? There are forms of poetry that (SHOCK HORROR!!) don't actually rhyme. A song is written by someone for a reason, and how it is written is entirely up to that individual. On paper, rhyming makes it sound like it flows, but a real song has music behind it, keep that in mind when you read lyrics. I won't go on.

Rhyming does however add to the catchyness and appeal of a song in the mainstream market, where people like Mr Anonymous can be found bopping away to the same old sounds and themes and patterns. If that is your aim, you may wish to work on that aspect. And the presentation is shocking. Break it into segments so the reader can digest it easier. Other than that, like I said, any idea has potential.
