A Whiskey State of Mind (lyrics - critque - country)

by David
(New Mexico)

I'm an unpublished poet and this is my second attempt at writing song lyrics. I would appreciate any honest commentary - thanks and happy trails.

In all the times before
you said that you were leaving
I never thought you'd leave me for another someones arms
but now you've gone and left me
drowning in my sorrows in a whiskey state of mind

There'll be no more tomorrows
just dreams of yesterday
those happy hours loving you until you went away

Meanwhile in this barroom
where the wine and liquor flows
I spend my days and wasted nights 'til morning comes along
a bottle in my hand
drowning in my sorrows in a whiskey state of mind

There'll be no more tomorrows
just whispers in the wind
and mem'ries of your laughing eyes in disappearing dreams

Though time for us is gone
and our world no longer turns
I can't forget your sweet caress the way you touched my skin
the lonely days and missing you
yet somewhere in what's left of time I'll learn to love again

'til then there's no tomorrow
just mem'ries of what might have been
until I find a new sweet love I'll stay a rolling stone

Brilliant Idea!
by: Lauren

Great lyrics, good imagery and phasing! The only thing I would change is the last allusion; "Rolling Stone" is a little too close to a certain famous rock band, no? Perhaps that was the intention, and it's a nice tip of the hat; but personally, I would either place it more towards the middle of the poem, or find a replacement. Aside from that small piece, I'd call it radio worthy! If you sing/play an instrument, I'd recommend going out to a local coffeehouse and trying it out!

Cheers,
Lauren
